Not every charity gala ends with someone being thrown into a volcano. This one just might. Lionsgate Play will premiere Sacrifice, the action-adventure dark comedy from filmmaker Romain Gavras, exclusively in India on 16th October. Chris Evans plays Mike Tyler, a movie star facing an existential crisis whose night takes an unexpected turn when a radical cult leader, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, chooses him for a human sacrifice she believes will save the world. A glamorous evening filled with celebrities and billionaires soon turns into a chaotic fight for survival, packed with dark humour and unexpected twists. Salma Hayek, John Malkovich and Charli XCX also star alongside
Marking Romain Gavras’s English-language debut, Sacrifice combines his bold visual style with action and dark humour for a sharp satire on celebrity culture, wealth and extreme beliefs.
Romain Gavras, known for Athena and his acclaimed music videos, brings his distinctive vision to the film. Speaking about it, he said, “Cinema, for me, is the attempt to wrestle meaning from a world I don’t understand—a world that’s absurd, beautiful, petty, violent, and full of grace, often all in the same frame. With Sacrifice, I want the audience to feel that same chaos and wonder. Now more than ever, it feels like we’re all dancing on the edge of a volcano. This is an invitation to stop dancing and jump.”
With an ensemble featuring Vincent Cassel, Ambika Mod, Sam Richardson, Yung Lean, Jade Croot and Miriam Silverman, Sacrifice promises a wild ride of dark humour, chaos and striking visuals.
